Profession – Financial Planner
Married 1 boy and girl
Let me start by saying I’m not an elite runner and I don’t come from a running background. Ten years ago, I had a demanding career as a financial planner, two young children and I realized I was out of shape and overweight. I started out like everyone else, struggling to run ¼ mile without stopping.
I classify myself as your typical middle of the pack runner. After completing several ultras, including Western States 100, (finishing almost dead last) it was recommended I try Vespa. I didn’t expect Vespa to propel me to the front of the pack or be a magic solution. I struggled with stomach issues during 50 and 100 mile races and recovery took me longer than most. From the first time I tried Vespa, I experienced no stomach issues and my recovery was dramatically faster.
At the age of 45 and after seven years of running ultras, I finally won my first race. On July 12th, 2014, at the CYA 100 I won in 20:58:02 running a negative split. A week later I was 2nd overall at the Kendall Mountain Run 11k. Lastly, one week later I placed 4th overall at the Vertigo 31k Night Run. I don’t believe these performances are a coincidence.
“Thank you Peter A. Defty and Vespa for helping me achieve a dream I thought would never happen. Without Vespa I wouldn’t have improved my 100 mile race distance like I have. I went from middle of the pack to winning my first 100 mile race. — “
