VESPA and it’s OFM program for fat-adaptation have been key to consistently getting me to the finish line without the nausea and bonks.
Now, I have to say I was skeptical of using VESPA at first, but was desperate because of the nausea I was getting in 50 and 100 milers. I changed my diet to high fat, low carb (I was a bread LOVER) in conjunction with VESPA and I became a believer! My nausea is gone; my body is leaner; and my recovery time is faster. Best part is being able to run the strongest and fastest I have in 10 years!
At this year’s San Diego 100 the temperatures soared, so my caloric intake was low which made fat my primary source of fuel. My pace remained steady throughout the heat of the day and I gradually moved up through the field to repeat my 2013 performance as the Female Champion and even place 4th overall!
In 2012 I won DC Firetrails 50 in 7:37, 2nd fastest time to Ann Trason (7:31), bettering my time from 10 years ago by 11 minutes. There is something to be said for older and wiser, but VESPA has been a major factor in my race outcomes. Believe!
